Summer Rain Brings Mold Your Way

9/6/2017 (Permalink)

Who else is ready for all of this rain to stop for a few weeks and hopefully we get a nice Fall season in NEPA? It feels like this summer has been full of severe thunderstorm alerts, severe weather alerts and storm damage everywhere you look which leads to our phones ringing off the hook! Don’t think that we are complaining about being busy by any means, but we do know that not all of those phone calls came in directly after the water damage occurred and some of them are still not been made. The calls that we have yet to receive from both residential and commercial water damage cases during these storms are inevitably going to turn into “I smell a terribly musty odor in my home” or “I think I see mold growing in my basement” and the list of calls regarding mold growth goes on and on.

It is extremely important for both home and business owners to understand how drastically water damage can affect a structure. It is not uncommon that people set up buckets to catch the water dripping from their ceilings or they vaccine up the water that they can see and set up fans to dry the flooring but they do not see what is happening under the surface. Once water gets into carpeting it seeps down through various layers, as well as other flooring such as hardwood. Drying the top of the flooring will not extract that water that has soaked through the layers and can ultimately result in mold growth, especially when it is hot and humid.

Mold growth can not only cause a stench throughout a structure but it can also be linked to deterioration of the structure as well as health problems for those that are living or working inside the structure. SERVPRO of Wayne and South Lackawanna Counties specializes in water damage through use of industrial dryers and water extraction equipment which should be your first step when experiencing any type of water damage. However, if you have left water damage untreated or you have treated yourself you may experience mold growth which needs to be professionally treated in order to completely remediate the mold issue. If you have experienced water damage or suspect that you have mold growth in your home or office call us at 570-344-2282 to start remediation process today!
